Daniel Schranz (born October 15, 1974 in Oberhausen ) is the Lord Mayor of Oberhausen.

Life

In his birthplace Oberhausen, Schranz grew up as the son of a tax advisor in the Marienviertel . There he first attended the Marienschule. Then he went to the Heinrich-Heine-Gymnasium. After graduating from high school in 1994 and completing military service, he studied modern history, economic history and political science at Heinrich Heine University in Düsseldorf . He finished his studies in 2000 as a master’s degree . He began his professional career as a research assistant at the history seminar at Heinrich Heine University. Then he worked as an authorized representative of a furniture store. Since March 2009 he has been the state representative of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) for North Rhine-Westphalia and as head of the state and regional office Rhineland of the KAS in Düsseldorf. From January 2011 to September 2013 he headed the KAS Municipal Academy in Wesseling .

Schranz is married to an interior designer and has three children, a daughter and two sons. He lives with his family in Oberhausen- Osterfeld .

politics

Schranz joined the Junge Union early on . In 2001 he took over the role of CDU parliamentary group chairman in the City Council of Oberhausen. In 2004 he stood for election as the top candidate of the CDU for the office of Lord Mayor, at that time he was defeated by Klaus Wehling ( SPD ). From 2004 to 2009 he acted as managing director of the CDU parliamentary group of the association assembly of the regional association Ruhr . On September 13, 2015, with a voter turnout of 36.71% with 52.52% of the votes cast in the first ballot, he was elected to the office of Lord Mayor of Oberhausen, after his goals in the election campaign were the creation of new industrial areas, higher security and Cleanliness in public spaces, the establishment of a “citizens' council”, better management of the city administration and the establishment of a university had promised. He also promised to campaign for the relocation of the Flaßhofstrasse brothel area from downtown Oberhausen. Schranz's victory in the mayoral election in 2015 aroused nationwide press coverage because Oberhausen's SPD, which was competing with the CDU, was unable to fill the post of mayor for the first time in almost 60 years.
