Daniel Schwaab (born August 23, 1988 in Waldkirch ) is a German soccer player . He plays in the position of central defender and was most recently under contract with PSV Eindhoven .

Youth / amateur

He started playing football at the age of four with the SV Waldkirch Bambini . He was initially in goal and later moved to the field. In 2000 he moved to SC Freiburg in the youth department. The defender won the DFB-Pokal with the Freiburg A-Juniors in 2006 (4-1 in the final against Karlsruher SC ) and got a contract for the Breisgau team.

Due to some injuries and losses in the professional squad, he came on the 4th match day of the 2006/07 season in the game against TSV 1860 Munich in the Allianz Arena in front of 42,500 spectators for his first appearance in the 2nd Bundesliga . He made 91 appearances and six goals in three years.

Bayer 04 Leverkusen

After his contract expired, he moved to Bayer 04 Leverkusen on July 1, 2009 . He quickly established himself as a left full-back. Towards the end of the season he was sent off the pitch in the away game against Eintracht Frankfurt shortly after the half-time break due to a gross foul. After that, Eintracht turned a 1: 2 deficit into a 3: 2 victory. In the following season Schwaab played 30 of the 34 season games. In the end he was runner-up with the Leverkusen team.

VfB Stuttgart

On May 8, 2013 Schwaab signed a contract with VfB Stuttgart dated until the end of June 2016, which came into force when his contract in Leverkusen expired for the 2013/14 season . On the 6th match day of the 2014/15 season he, meanwhile a regular player in VfB's central defense, scored his first Bundesliga goal for the Swabians in a 1-0 home win against Hannover 96 . He left the club when his contract expired at the end of June 2016.

PSV Eindhoven

On July 11, 2016 Schwaab signed a three-year contract with PSV Eindhoven . In his first season he booked an appearance in the Dutch Cup, six appearances in the UEFA Champions League and 23 appearances in the Eredivisie. In his second year he was champion with PSV Eindhoven; Schwaab was described as an "inconspicuous force". His contract, which expired in 2019, was initially not extended. Schwaab kept fit during the summer break at SC Freiburg and signed a new one-year contract with PSV Eindhoven in August 2019.

National team

On August 21, 2007 Schwaab made his debut in the German U-21 national team . He was on the starting line-up for the game against Ireland. At the U-21 European Championship in Sweden in 2009 under national coach Horst Hrubesch , Schwaab made his tournament debut in the 68th minute of the final against England and won the U-21 European championship with the team.
