Daniel Simon (* 1975 in Stralsund ) is a German vehicle designer . Simon designs cars and motorcycles for automakers such as VW and Bugatti, as well as for science fiction films for the Walt Disney Company , Warner Bros. Entertainment and Universal .

biography

Daniel Simon was born in Stralsund in 1975. He studied transportation design at the Pforzheim University of Applied Sciences , a degree from which he graduated in 2001 with a bachelor's degree. After graduating, he worked for the VW Group, from 2001 as a senior concept designer and later as a concept car lead designer . Simon designed concept cars for automobile fairs and worked as a concept designer on a 1200 hp version of the Bugatti Veyron . Simon moved to Brazil in 2005–2007 , where he created the photo-realistic painted series of images about the space ship and car company Cosmic Motors, which he invented and which is depicted in the book Cosmic Motors: Spaceships, Cars and Pilots of Another Galaxy . Simon describes this time, in which he lived on his savings, as the most beautiful time of his life.

The book, published in 2007 in America in English and German, prompted the director of the Disney studio film Tron: Legacy , Joseph Kosinski, to offer him the vehicle design for the futuristic motorcycles in the film. Simon, who rented an office in Berlin in 2008 and worked as a freelancer for Puma , Honda and DKNY , moved to Hollywood in the same year and designed the vehicles, especially the "Lightcycles" for TRON Legacy, which were later also made by the Parker Brothers Choppers were recreated.

Between November 2009 and June 2010 he worked as lead vehicle designer for the film Captain America: The First Avenger at Marvel Studios . For the film he designed the Hydra Schmidt Coupé , named after Johann Schmidt alias Red Skull, the leader of the HYDRA organization . He also worked as lead vehicle designer for the Disney television cartoon series TRON: The Uprising .

In 2011 he designed the livery of the Formula 1 racing car HRT F111 for the Hispania Racing F1 Team .

Works

His main artistic work is a series of computer-generated images of futuristic cars, rockets and spaceships , which he assigns to a spaceship and car manufacturer called Cosmic Motors , which he conceived as a science fiction author . His photo series have appeared internationally in many popular magazines such as Ramp , Wired , Car & Driver , Motortrend, 3DMag and Top Gear . In addition to his designs for technology, barely clad women often play a role in this success, most of whom are the young heiresses of his fantasy company Cosmic Motors . Daniel Simon now also uses Cosmic Motors as a label for his real designer company. With the design of the 2011 racing car of the poorest Formula 1 racing team Hispania Racing F1 Team , a real car also bore the inscription Cosmic Motors . For the film " Oblivion ", among other things, he designed the "killer drone".
