Daniel "Danny" Williams (born March 8, 1989 in Karlsruhe ) is a German - American football player who is under contract with the Cypriot first division club Paphos FC . Williams is also a US national team player .

Career

In the club

Williams grew up in the Karlsruhe district of Hagsfeld and played at the age of three for the Bambini of Karlsruher SC . Later he moved to the soccer school of SC Freiburg , with whose A-Juniors he won the German A-Juniors Championship with a 2-0 win over VfL Wolfsburg . In the summer of the same year he moved to the regional league reserve of SC Freiburg. The two-footed defensive midfielder was also used at SC on the right side of defense and in central defense. In the Regionalliga Süd he was used 60 times for the second team of the sports club and scored four goals. Williams made his Bundesliga debut on January 22nd, 2010 (19th matchday) in a 0-1 defeat at home against VfB Stuttgart .

During the summer break of 2011, he moved to league rivals TSG 1899 Hoffenheim . In the summer of 2013 Williams left TSG and moved to Reading FC in the English second division . When he was relegated to the Premier League, he signed a four-year contract. On July 4, 2017, he signed a two-year contract with the Premier League promoted Huddersfield Town .

At the beginning of September 2019 he joined the Cypriot club Paphos FC .

National team

Williams completed his only international appearances for Germany for the U-15 national team . The US national coach Jürgen Klinsmann called Daniel Williams on September 29, 2011 for two international matches against the selection of Honduras and Ecuador for the first time in the squad of the US national team . On October 8, 2011 Williams made his debut in Miami against Honduras for the Soccer Boys . He scored his first international goal on June 5, 2015 in a friendly against the Netherlands .

Williams is the son of an American and a German . The parents married when the African-American father was stationed in the US Army in Heidelberg . Williams is entitled to both nationalities, but had only one German passport until September 2011.
