Daniel "Danny" Arthur Quimoy Cruz (born January 3, 1990 in Petersburg , Virginia ) is a former American football player on the position of a striker .

Since 2018 he has been assistant coach at Louisville City FC in the USL Championship .

Career

Youth and amateur football

Cruz began his active football career at Ironwood High School in Glendale , Arizona , without ever playing football. Cruz spent much of his childhood in Glendale and describes the town itself as the place where he grew up. In his first year at Ironwood HS he played football and roller hockey and only joined the football team in his sophomore year after the football team coach noticed him because of his speed and persuaded Cruz to join the team. In 2005 he won the championship with the high school team, the Eagles . He was also able to celebrate a number of personal successes at Ironwood High School, where he also spent a year on the baseball team. Cruz scored 70 goals throughout his high school years and set a new record for the number of goals scored in the state of Arizona. In addition to the missions for the Eagles , he gained further experience at the Sereno Soccer Club , an amateur club from Glendale.

In 2007 Cruz moved to the University of Nevada, Las Vegas , UNLV for short , where he came to a variety of assignments in the university soccer team , the Rebels . In his freshman year he was used in 14 games, 13 of which he was on the field from the start. Overall, Cruz had four league goals and four assists this year. He missed the first two games because he played games for the US U-17 selection. In 2008 he scored five goals in the championship.

During his college years, Cruz played for Des Moines Menace in the USL Premier Development League, which is regarded as fourth-rate . At the amateur club from West Des Moine , Iowa , he scored three goals in seven games.

Club career

Cruz's career as a professional footballer began in early January 2009 when he signed a Generation Adidas deal, qualifying for the 2009 MLS SuperDraft , which took place on January 15th. He was drafted as the 41st pick in the 3rd round to Houston Dynamo. He made his professional debut in Major League Soccer on March 28, 2009 in the 3-2 away defeat by the San José Earthquakes when he was substituted on for Wade Barrett in the 79th minute .

In January 2012, he moved to DC United for a fee. In August of the same year he moved again to the Philadelphia Union .

On March 19, 2015 he was loaned to the Norwegian first division club FK Bodø / Glimt .

International

In 2007, just over three years after his first encounter with football, Cruz was included in the 21-man squad for the US U-17 squad for the 2007 U-17 World Cup appointed in South Korea . He also represented his home country at the 2007 Pan American Games in Brazil . Since 2008 Cruz has been in the squad of the United States U-20 national team , in 2009 he took part with the team at the Junior World Cup in Egypt and was used there in two games. To date, he has played for the team 18 times and scored three goals.
