Dark Blood is an US-American - Dutch film drama by George Sluizer from the year 2012 .

Harry and his wife Buffy are on their honeymoon when their car, a Rolls Royce, stops in the middle of the desert. Buffy sees a light in the distance and while her husband stays at the car she walks towards it. Buffy meets a young widower there who lives in a small house. The young man immediately offers to help.
While the couple's car is being repaired in the neighboring town, Buffy and Harry stay in the young man's house. Buffy and the young man get a little closer during this time.
Harry thinks, however, that something is wrong. The young man seems to be preventing the car from being repaired and thus preventing the departure. Buffy later realizes that the young man is unlikely to let them both leave. Harry and Buffy try to escape.

The film Dark Blood was originally shot in 1993. While filming, the lead actor River Phoenix died of a drug overdose and the film could not be completed. On November 18 of the same year, the production company decided to put the film on hold for good.
As George Sluizer said at the Berlinale press conference in 2013, many years later he managed to save the unprocessed film material stored in London from destruction. After a serious illness, he resumed work on the film in 2012. The Dutch crowdfunding website Cinecrowd raised a total of 17,513 euros from 69 donors, which were used to complete the film. The donors received for their donations u. a. Thank you gifts, like a limited edition DVD.
80% of the film was finished in 1993. The remaining missing scenes were added via voice-over from director George Sluizer. This explains what is going on in the missing scenes. Sluizer compared the film to a chair with three legs. The fourth leg would always be missing, but the chair could still stand.
On September 27, 2012, Dark Blood was presented to a public audience for the first time at the Dutch Film Festival . This was followed by a screening at several international film festivals. Dark Blood has been shown in cinemas in Japan . In 2014 it was announced that Dark Blood would appear in the United States via video-on-demand . The film will also be released in Brazil, South Korea and Turkey.
In Germany, the film was shown at the International Film Festival in Berlin . On July 13, 2017, the film was released in German cinemas with the help of the distribution company missing films . It was released on DVD in Germany on January 26, 2018.
