Darwin Joston

Darwin Joston (* 9. December 1937 as Francis Darwin Solomon in Winston-Salem , North Carolina ; † 1. June 1998 ) was an American actor .

Life

Joston studied acting at the University of North Carolina . After graduating in 1960, he moved to New York City , where he initially worked as a stage actor. He moved to Los Angeles in the mid-1960s , where he received guest roles on various television series such as Lassie , The People at Shiloh Ranch and The Boss . He made his feature film debut in 1971 on the side of John Carradine in the western Die die im Sattel . He played his most famous role in 1976 in John Carpenter's action - thriller Assault - stop at night in the role of Napoleon Wilson . The following year he appeared in a supporting role in David Lynch's Eraserhead . In 1980 there was another collaboration with John Carpenter, in a supporting role as coroner Dr. Phibes in the horror film The Fog . For two years he made the science fiction film Time Walker with his Assault co-star Austin Stoker .

In the 1980s he was less and less in front of the camera. He had already started working as a driver in film productions at the end of the 1970s, and from the mid-1980s he mainly worked as a transportation captain and coordinated vehicles and drivers. In 1994 he retired from show business and retired in his hometown, where he died in 1998.

Joston was married for a second time, and his first marriage resulted in a son.
