content

Farmer Ferdinand lives on a hill with his wife Juliette and their adoptive son Tom, who always addresses Ferdinand with his grandfather. The film begins with them picking up the girl Lili with the tractor, because her parents, Louise and René Lamotte, drive to Africa with their car and trailer to pick up crocodiles for the small zoo that they run on their property. For the duration of their safari, they leave their daughter Lili and the animals in their small zoo in the care of Ferdinand and Juliette.

Lili comes to the farm and all four live there at ease, while the frogs in the pond get restless, because their calculations have shown that a new flood is imminent. In this dire situation, the frogs even speak to Tom to warn people that it will shortly rain for forty days and forty nights. This catastrophe poses no danger to the frogs, but it does pose a threat to the other animals.

In search of protection, the animals escape from the nearby zoo to the farm, which stands on a hill. The zoo animals also flee into the barn, which is torn loose by the water and floats on the water on a huge tractor tire. Ferdinand, the experienced sailor, takes on the role of captain and swears by everyone that they will only survive if they stick together. His African wife Juliette helps keep the team happy. When the rain finally stops, all the animals are starved, but Ferdinand has stored 28 tons of potatoes in his barn, which he turns into french fries. The herbivores among the animals are enthusiastic about this, but the carnivores cannot accept it.

A turtle that comes on board incites the carnivores and a mutiny ensues, in which Ferdinand and Juliette are abandoned in a barrel and the two children are to be killed. The carnivores slaughter the chickens and eat them grilled. The situation comes to a head when it turns out that the turtle has allied itself with crocodiles and asks them to storm the barn. At the last moment Ferdinand and Juliette come back on board and rescue the turtle, which is now facing the execution of the terrified animals.

Soon after, the barn runs aground and the whole crew is celebrating an exuberant party with other survivors, to which Lili's parents also join, who have not noticed anything of the whole flood.

But you are released from the cinema in the best of moods because you have seen something that has become rare: an animated film whose makers let the fun of their profession be felt not through witty allusions, but through loving design. ”(Faz.net )
  • "The Secret of the Frogs" is an animated film, told in brightly colored, naive and subtle pictures, which has won multiple international awards and which retells the biblical story of Noah's Ark as a modern parable with lots of poetry and exuberant humor. "(Bayerischer Rundfunk)
