action

Todd restores a Redstone rocket and Mercury capsule with the help of his grandfather . At the same time, this is a science school project that Todd is doing together with his girlfriend Sarah. After initial setbacks, a test run on the launch pad is successful, but NASA and the FBI want to stop the project for security reasons. Todd's grandfather decides to give up restoring the rocket.

The orbiting space shuttle Endeavor is damaged by a meteor shower and cannot return to Earth because the required spare part is not on board. NASA then decided - as the only option - to start a rescue mission with the museum-grade Mercury rocket. Only ex-astronaut Gus and his grandson Todd are considered pilots. The missile will be transported to the Vandenberg Air Force Base and prepared for launch. Initially, Gus is selected as the capsule pilot; But when Todd leaves the mission at short notice to fulfill Todd's dream, his grandson becomes a pilot of the Mercury capsule.

Todd flies with the space capsule into earth orbit to dock on the tentacle of the space shuttle. Only on the second attempt does he succeed in the maneuver; the capsule is hoisted into the hold, and Todd gives the needed spare part to the crew. Then Todd can fly back with the Mercury capsule. The re-entry into the earth's atmosphere succeeds and the capsule floats safely to earth on a parachute.

Reviews

"Space adventure that does not value a hint of credibility and whose special effects are kept within a modest framework."
