chronology
- The monster from the wardrobe The day the world ended

The monster from the closet is the debut album of Lübbener Deathcore - band We Butter the Bread with Butter (WBTBWB). After the first self-distribution of 100 pieces, it was released on November 21, 2008 on Redfield Records. At the same time, the album was also released in North America. In total, the circulation is well over 5000 pieces.

background

In 2007 Marcel Neumann and Tobias Schultka began to emulate their musical role models such as Suicide Silence and Crystal Castles . This resulted in the first song, initially without lyrics. The song "Backe, Backe Kuchen" was born from the idea that the syllables of "In the kitchen it smells delicious" go well with the music. So the idea of setting new songs to children's songs was born. All songs on the album were completely recorded at Marcel Neumann's home. The band refuses to record in a studio as they think it limits creativity. The album was created during the semester break, from writing and recording the songs to designing the cover.

style

Many songs are reinterpretations of well-known German children's songs or contain at least some of the texts of these, but are placed in a new context (such as "Godzilla", which partly consists of the text of " Auf der Mauer, auf der Lauer "). Most of the singing is guttural . It ranges from high screams to pig squeals to deep growls . The way of playing the guitar is more technically oriented. As is typical in deathcore , breakdowns and blastbeats are often used, but electronic elements can also be heard, which is not genre standard. Certain genre-typical playing styles are deliberately exaggerated (e.g. "extreme"). The band itself describes their style as "Deathcore-Electro-Nursery Rhyme-Buttercore".

review

Www.hardkern.de writes about the album:

“We Butter The Bread With Butter offer brutal Metalcore here , which rolls forward pretty powerfully and does not make any compromises. Add to that nasty growls, pig-squeals and razor-sharp screams that, figuratively, almost make your blood run cold. But at some point even the funniest joke gets boring and "The monster from the closet" loses a little of its fascination after two thirds of its playing time. "

www.bloodchamber.de writes:

"This album has everything it needs: riffs, double bass and grunts without end, ingenious and imaginative lyrics, a great cover with a pertinent name and a fat production, where only the voice of the head chaotic on the mic could have been a bit more powerful." (9.5 / 10)
