The Bamako (Original title: Bamako ) is a French-American-Malian film drama by Abderrahmane Sissako from the year 2006 , which in Mali capital Bamako plays. The film is about a fictional process by African civil society against the World Bank and the IMF .

In the courtyard of a house in Bamako, representatives of African civil society from the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund go through the process that they accuse of increasing poverty in Africa. Prosecutors, witnesses and defense counsel have their say. Meanwhile, everyday life goes on in the courtyard, showing the relationship between the good-looking singer Melé and her unemployed husband Chaka. Also scenes are an African emigration to Europe and one fictional, in Timbuktu playing Western shown.
