Dasylirion miquihuanense is a species of the genus Dasylirion in the asparagus family (Asparagaceae). An English common name is "Miquihuana Grass Tree".

description

Dasylirion miquihuanense forms a woody, robust trunk from 20 to 250 cm in height. The square, stiff, smooth, thickened, variable, green, dense leaves at the base are 70 to 100 cm long and 10 to 15 mm wide. The variable radial spines are directed upwards. The tips are bushy / fibrous when young.

The panicley, woody inflorescence becomes 2 to 3 m high. The numerous flowers are olive to tan-colored. The flowering period extends from March to May.

The elliptical to egg-shaped, tan-colored capsule fruits contain a 1 seed and are 6 to 7 mm long and 5–6.5 mm wide. The triangular seeds are 3 mm long and 2.5 mm wide.

Distribution and systematics

Dasylirion miquihuanense is endemic to Mexico in southern Nuevo Leon and southwest Tamaulipas at altitudes of 1700 to 1900 m. It grows in desert areas in open, flat terrain and on stony slopes, associated with Dasylirion quadrangulatum , Dasylirion berlandieri , Yucca filifera , Agave lechuguilla , Agave striata and various species of cacti .

It was first described in 1998 by David John Bogler .

The rare Dasylirion miquihuanense is a member of the Quadrangulatum section . The stiff, green leaves that are square at the base are typical. Its appearance is similar to that of Dasylirion berlandieri , but there are differences in the leaf structure. In the overlapping areas, e.g. B. in the Dr. Arrojo region, there are hybrids of both species.

Dasylirion miquihuanense is little known.
