The Dattelbraune Ellerling or Striped Ellerling ( Cuphophyllus colemannianus , syn. Camarophyllus colemannianus , C. subradiatus in the sense of a long and Cetto , Hygrophorus colemannianus , H. subradiatus within the meaning of Kühner & Romagnesi and Arnold and Hygrocybe colemannianus ) is a mushroom art from the family the snail relatives (Hygrophoraceae).

features

The strongly cross-linked lamellae of the date brown Ellerling on the underside of the hat ( C. colemannianus ) are striking .

The hat, which is up to 5 cm in size, is convex, at most bluntly hunched and brown with a reddish tinge. Towards the edge it fades to a light brownish color and shows a weak, translucent groove. With increasing age, the sharp-edged edge of the hat curves upwards in a wavy manner. The smooth, slightly shiny surface feels greasy. Typical are the whitish to pale brownish, often forked and clearly cross-connected lamellae that run down the handle. The handle, which is up to 6 cm long and 1 cm thick, tapers towards the base and likes to be slightly kneeled. The compact fruit bodies have a white flesh without a specific odor. The stems are twisted, longitudinally fibrous and filled with wool when old. The spore powder is white, the color reaction with iodine is negative.

Species delimitation

The radial-striped Ellerling ( Cuphophyllus radiatus ) is very similar . However, it forms narrower fruiting bodies and the hats are clearly grooved up to half of the hat radius (name).

ecology

The preferred habitat of the date brown Ellerling are low-lying meadows and steppe lawns rich in bases, but also forest clearings and edges as well as extensively used grassland. It can be found from the lowlands to the alpine altitude. The fruiting bodies appear in small groups or individually scattered from September to November, rarely earlier. The way of life of the Ellerlinge is unclear: some consider them to be saprobionts that decompose organic material, others suspect mycorrhizal fungi that interact with grasses.

distribution

It is widespread in North America and Europe, but in many places it is endangered.

meaning

The date brown Ellerling is not an edible mushroom. It is considered a pointer for particularly valuable biotopes.
