Dave Hahn
Dave Hahn (born November 3, 1961 in Okinawa , Japan) is an American mountaineer and one of the most successful and active mountaineers in the world.
Life
He attended the University at Buffalo and has worked as a mountain guide since 1986. Since 1985 he has lived in Taos , New Mexico .
Ventures
By 2013 he had 15 successful climbs (1994, 1999, 2000, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006 (twice), 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013) of Mount Everest ( 8,848 m ), which is the most Represents summit victories of a non- Sherpa on this highest mountain in the world. Furthermore, by 2013 he had more than 275 ascents of Mount Rainier ( 4,392 m ), the highest mountain in the North American Cascade Range , 33 ascents on Mount Vinson ( 4,892 m ), the highest mountain in Antarctica , and 21 ascents of Mount McKinley ( 6190 m ) , the highest mountain in North America. He also stood twice on the summit of Cho Oyu ( 8188 m ) in the Himalayas and on the summit of Aconcagua ( 6961 m ), the highest mountain in South America.
In the Alps, he climbed the Mont Blanc ( 4810 m ), the Matterhorn ( 4478 m ) and the Jungfrau ( 4158 m ), among others .
In 1999 he took part in the Mallory and Irvine Research Expedition on Everest to find the climbers George Mallory and Andrew Irvine , who died in 1924 . In doing so, they recovered the remains of Mallory at approx. 8150 m . The company was accompanied by the TV station PBS .
In 2004 he was the first person to repeat the legendary South Georgia Traverse of the polar explorer Ernest Shackleton , crossing over 40 km of the mountainous, rugged and mostly ice-covered landscape of South Georgia .
Awards
During his time as a mountaineer, he was particularly known and awarded for his difficult rescue missions in the high mountains. In 2001, he received the Denali Pro Mountaineer of the Year award from Denali Park Service for his rescue operations on Mount McKinley. In 2002 he received the David A. Sowles Memorial Award , the highest honor of the American Alpine Club. In 2001, he had renounced a summit victory on Everest to help five mountaineers in distress on the northern slope. In one of the highest rescue operations in history, he was able to bring four of the alpinists from the mountain alive.
In 2007 he rescued a mountaineer from Nepal while descending Everest and in 2008 was honored by the Nepal Mountaineering Association . In 2002 he was in a rescue helicopter on the way to Mount Rainier to help a climber injured after falling rocks. Before they could reach the site, however, the helicopter crashed and crashed. Hahn survived the accident, was able to save the pilot and then rescue and care for the injured climber. For this act he was in 2009 by the United States Department of the Interior with the Citizen's Award for Bravery honored.
