David A. Kyle
David Ackerman Kyle (born February 14, 1919 in Monticello , New York - † September 18, 2016 in New York State ) was an American science fiction author, fan, editor, illustrator and publisher.
Life
As a teenager, Kyle published science fiction fanzines and was part of the New York science fiction group the Futurians , which also included Isaac Asimov , Damon Knight and Cyril M. Kornbluth . He participated in the first World Science Fiction Convention in 1939 and founded Gnome Press with Martin Greenberg in 1948 , which published works such as Asimov's I, the Robot and the Foundation cycle . The publisher also published Robert E. Howard's books on Conan the Cimmerian .
In 1976 and 1977 Kyle wrote two illustrated books on the history of science fiction. Between 1980 and 1983 he wrote the last three volumes in Edward E. Smith's Lensmen cycle . The protagonist of the Smith's Lensmen volumes was Kimball Kinnison of Earth. Kyle now added the stories of the three other second-order Lenträger, each with a volume dedicated.
He has also written hundreds of articles for science fiction magazines and fanzines .
