David Carter Hearn (born April 17, 1959 in Bethesda , Maryland ) is a retired American canoeist .

Hearn celebrated his first international success at the Canoe Slalom World Championships in Jonquière in 1979 , where he won the silver medal in the single canoe. He repeated this success at the Canoe Slalom World Championships in 1981 in Bala and at the Canoe Slalom World Championships in 1983 in Merano . Two years later he won the gold medal at the 1985 World Championships in Augsburg . In 1987 in Bourg-Saint-Maurice and 1989 in Savage River he won silver again. At the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona , he came in 11th place. At the Canoe Slalom World Championships in Nottingham in 1995 , he won gold again. At the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta , the now 37-year-old Hearn came ninth. He ended his international career four years later at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney , where, despite his 41 years, he again came in 12th.

David Hearn is the brother of the canoeist Cathy Hearn and thus also the brother-in-law of Lecky Haller .
