David Janeway

David Janeway (* 1955 in Rochester , New York ) is an American jazz - pianist , composer and arranger.

David Janeway grew up in Detroit and began playing the piano at the age of six. Influences u. a. by Marcus Belgrave , Bill Evans and Denny Zeitlin , he came to New York City in 1978 , where he studied with Albert Dailey and also worked with various jazz and Latin groups. Janeway also played with Art Farmer , The Supremes , Michal Urbaniak , David Fathead Newman , Junior Cook , Tom Harrell , Danny Gottlieb , Dakota Staton and Benny Golson . In 1986 he made his debut album Entry Point (New Directions), on which Bob Berg , Marcus Belgrave and Steve Berrios participated. With Sonny Fortune , Billy Hart and Valery Ponomarev he recorded the album Inside Out in 1991 for Timeless Records . The album Excursion followed in a trio with Harvie Swartz and Steve Davis . Janeway is stylistically reminiscent of McCoy Tyner . He is not to be confused with the American actor of the same name ( Street of Temptation ).
