David John de Laubenfels

David John de Laubenfels (born December 5, 1925 in Pasadena , California - † February 6, 2016 ) was an American botanist and geographer. Its official botanical author's abbreviation is “ de Laub. “The focus of his work was“ Environmental Geography ”and the taxonomy of naked-seed plants (Gymnospermae).

Live and act

Laubenfels received an AB in Geography from Colgate University in Hamilton, New York , in 1949 . From the University of Illinois he received an MA in geography in 1950 and a Ph. D. in geography and botany in 1953.

From 1953 to 1958 he was assistant professor of geography, then until 1959 associate professor of geography at the University of Georgia in Athens . From 1959 to 1971 he was Associate Professor of Geography at Syracuse University in Syracuse (New York) and from 1971 to 1993 Professor of Geography there. From 1993 Laubenfels retired, but continued to publish. He died on February 6, 2016.

Honors

From 1955 to 1956, Laubenfels was a Post-Doctoral Fellow at Johns Hopkins University . Is named after him, the plant genus Laubenfelsia A.V.Bobrov & Melikyan from the family of podocarpaceae (Podocarpaceae).
