David Stuart Mitchell (born June 13, 1962 in Glasgow ) is a former Australian football player .

Life

Shortly after Mitchell was born in Scotland , his parents moved to Australia. He grew up in Adelaide .

Career

society

Mitchell began his career as a football player with the Australian club Adelaide City ; he played there until 1983. Then he moved to his hometown for the Glasgow Rangers in Scotland. In 1985 he moved to Germany for Bundesliga club Eintracht Frankfurt . With the Eintracht Mitchell was at the end of the season twice in a row in 15th place. In his first season, he came only to three missions. In the second season he was part of the regular staff and was in 32 league games in use, in which he scored five goals. From Eintracht Mitchell moved on to the Netherlands to Feyenoord Rotterdam in the Eredivisie , the Dutch first division. After two years at Feyenoord, Mitchell moved on. For the 1990/91 season he moved to Chelsea FC in England's capital , then to Newcastle United . After three years in England and another station at Swindon Town , he went to Altay Izmir in Turkey for a short time in 1993 . He was hired by Millwall FC for the new season and played in England for two more years. After a brief stint in Malaysia at Selangor FA , he moved back to Australia and played at Sydney Olympic and Sydney United . At both stations he worked as a player-coach.

National team

For the Australian national team he played 44 times and scored 13 goals. With the team he took part in the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul and finished in 5th place.

  • On November 8, 1986 Mitchell scored the final score of 1: 1 20 seconds after his substitution for Eintracht Frankfurt in the game against the newly promoted FC Homburg , this was the fastest goal up to then after a substitution of a player in the Bundesliga. On January 28, 2012, Stephan Hain scored a goal in the game against 1. FC Kaiserslautern, also twenty seconds after being substituted on.
