David Richter d. Ä. (Born August 31, 1661 in Stockholm , Sweden ; † April 30, 1735 in Vienna ) was a Swedish - German portrait and landscape painter .

Life

David was the son of the goldsmith Friedrich Richter. His cousin David Richter the Younger (1664–1741) was also an artist. David Richter d. Ä. learned from the painter and draftsman David Klöcker von Ehrenstahl (1629–1698) and then worked in Berlin . There he created pictures of the Brandenburg Prime Minister Eberhard von Danckelman and his brothers Daniel Ludolf and Sylvester (see Danckelmansches Siebengestirn ). In 1692 he stayed in Dresden , where he painted, among other things, the Elector Johann Georg IV . Even before 1701 he moved to Vienna, where, for example, Prince Eugene of Savoy sat for him. He married on May 29, 1708 in Vienna.
