David Schwenke

David Schwenke (born September 29, 1575 in Pirna ; † November 5, 1620 ibid) was a German sculptor in Saxony .

Life

He was the younger brother of the sculptor Michael Schwenke . He completed his training as a sculptor with Christian Krämer in Pirna and Andreas Buschwitz in Dresden . He also worked for a few years in the workshop of Christoph Walther II in Dresden and later with his son-in-law Melchior Jobst in Pirna. In 1609 he was appointed foreman of the guild of stonemasons , masons and sculptors. He was Michael Schwenke's employee and workshop successor. Later he also worked in the workshop of Christoph Walther IV in Dresden. He mainly created decorative grave decorations.

  • 1608: Portrait gravestones for the author Jordan and his family in the church in Reichstädt near Dippoldiswalde
  • 1610–12: leading architect in the execution of the altar of the town church St. Marien Pirna
  • 1615: Pulpit of the St. Michaelis Church in the old town of Lüneburg
  • 1616: Portrait gravestones for the mountain master Christoph Fincke in the church in Altenberg
  • 1617: Epitaph for Elisabeth von Schönberg in the church at Reinhardtsgrimma
  • 1619: Tomb chest piece for Laurenz Jerschel in Tetschen
  • Completion of the ten meter high sandstone altarpiece of his brother Michael Schwenke in the town church of St. Marien Pirna
  • 1625: Tomb of the Abraham Bock family on the north wall in the nave of the church in Waltirsche
