Jan van Nerijnen (born March 14, 1935 in Dubbeldam , province of South Holland ; † March 24, 2016 in Utrecht ) was a Dutch composer and conductor . He also used the pseudonyms David Seeker , John Nimbly and Werner Taler .

Life

At the age of 10 he already played the flugelhorn in the fanfare orchestra Kunst na Arbeid in Dordrecht , Netherlands . He received lessons in piano and music theory from the then conductor of the fanfare . From 1950 to 1955 he studied trumpet with Anton Bakker , piano with Anton Dresden and Jan de Man , composition with Kees van Baaren and George Stam at the Utrecht Conservatory . In 1955 he graduated.

From 1956 - as the successor to his trumpet teacher Anton Bakker - he was a trumpeter at the Utrecht Symfonie Orkest until 1985. From 1957 to 1960 he was a lecturer for brass instruments at the Conservatory in Utrecht , and from 1961 to 1980 lecturer for brass and piano at the Peter van Anrooy music school in Zaltbommel and 1970 to 1976 lecturer for brass instruments at the A. Feijten music school in Vleuten / De Meern . Since 2010 Nerijnen has worked as a reviewer for the Brabants Dagblad newspaper.

He was the conductor of several choirs as well as of around 15 harmony and fanfare orchestras.

His oeuvre consists almost exclusively of works for wind orchestra and brass ensembles.
