David Seltzer (* 1940 in Highland Park , Illinois ) is an American screenwriter , film producer and film director . He was best known as the writer of the original screenplay for The Omen .

Life

Seltzer also wrote the scripts for the horror film Prophecy , the comedy film My Giant , the tragicomedy Lucas , the film drama Punchline and the thriller Like a Light in a Dark Night . He was also the director of the last three. In the literary film adaptation of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory , he is said to have rewritten 30% of the screenplay by Roald Dahl , who also wrote the book. Seltzer is not mentioned in the credits, however.

In 2002 he founded the talent and production company Management 360 with Eric Kranzler , Guymon Casady , Suzan Bymel , Evelyn O'Neill and Daniel Rappaport .

Awards

In 1975 and 1977 he won the Humanitas Prize in the Prime Time TV 90 minute category .

For the film Like a Light in Dark Night , he was awarded the Golden Raspberry for the worst director in 1992 and was nominated for the worst screenplay for the same film .

The Writers Guild of America recognized him for Cinema Verite in 2012 and nominated him for The Omen and The Hellstrom Chronicle in 1977 and 1972 .
