David Sommeil (born August 10, 1974 in Pointe-à-Pitre , Guadeloupe ) is a former French football player and national player of the French overseas department of Guadeloupe.

The 179 cm tall defender currently plays for French club Valenciennes FC . He previously worked for Sheffield United and Manchester City in England and for Olympique Marseille , Girondins Bordeaux , Stade Rennes and SM Caen in France . At the 2007 CONCACAF Gold Cup in the USA, he played five games for the Guadeloupe national team. On August 20, 2008, he collapsed while exercising and was hospitalized. According to initial diagnoses, the Frenchman has apparently suffered a heart attack. He then ended his career.
