David Thomas Ansted (born February 5, 1814 in London , † May 13, 1880 in Melton near Woodbridge , Suffolk ) was an English geologist .

Life

David Thomas Anstedt studied at Cambridge University and became Professor of Geology at King's College in London in 1840 . In 1845 he switched to the military school in Addiscombe and later to the College of Civil Engineers in Putney (London) in the same function .

From 1848 he worked mainly as a consulting mining engineer and from 1868 examinator for physical geography in the Department of Art and Science. Ansted died on May 13, 1880, at his home in Melton, near Woodbridge , Suffolk, aged 66 .

In addition to his geological and scientific works, Ansted published several travel books and travel guides.

Ansted was a “ Fellow ” of Jesus College at Cambridge University . In 1844 he was elected as a member ("Fellow") in the Royal Society .
