David of Andrássy
David von Andrássy (born December 20, 1762 in Győr , † August 27, 1813 near Dresden ) was a Hungarian soldier .
Life
David von Andrássy came from a respected Hungarian family, who had been a cadet in the 32nd Infantry Regiment since 1778 . He was promoted to ensign in 1782 and thus participated in the Russian-Austrian Turkish War . From 1805 he served as a major . In this position he organized a battalion in Neograd County . He also became the commander of this battalion. He had the rank of colonel from 1808.
On May 22nd, 1809 von Andrássy stopped the enemies at Aspern who were superior to his people. For this he received the Military Maria Theresa Order . Three years later he contributed to the victory against the Russians at Podubnie and was therefore promoted to major general.
On August 27, 1813, the Battle of Dresden took place with Andrássy's participation. He was fatally wounded on his left side by a cannonball. The adjutant Oberleutnant Sauer took Andrássy's corpse out of the slaughterhouse and buried it near Dresden.
