David from Wyss
David von Wyss (born June 8, 1763 in Zurich , † August 18, 1839 in Erlenbach ZH ) is considered one of the leading conservative politicians in Switzerland in the first half of the 19th century.
Life
David von Wyss was the son of Zurich's mayor David von Wyss the Elder (1737-1815). After studying law in Halle , he worked in various positions as a lawyer for the city-state of Zurich. In the Helvetic Republic he was a member of the Senate from 1801 to 1802. In the autumn of 1801, von Wyss drafted a new constitution for the federal government of the Helvetic Republic on the basis of the Malmaison constitution, which was approved by the Senate on February 26, 1802. After the coup d'état of April 17, the constitution was not implemented and von Wyss withdrew into politics in Zurich. In 1803 he joined the Grand Council and in the same year was accepted into the government, the Small Council, of which he was a member until 1814. From 1814 to 1832 he was mayor of Zurich. As such, he officiated as chairman of the long assembly in 1815 and played a key role in the creation of the federal treaty. In 1821 and 1827 he was head of state of Switzerland as President of the Diet.
