Davide Villella (born June 27, 1991 in Magenta ) is an Italian racing cyclist .

Career

Davide Villella won two stages of the Giro della Regione Friuli Venezia Giulia in 2012 . In 2013 the overall victory at the Giro della Valle d'Aosta followed . In addition, there were two stage wins and the points classification of this race. In October 2013 he won the Piccolo Giro di Lombardia , the U23 edition of Il Lombardia . Villella then drove a few races as a stagiaire for the UCI WorldTeam Cannondale , where he received a professional contract. He won the mountain classification at the Tour of the Basque Country in 2014 and the junior classification at the 2014 Arctic Race of Norway . He won the Japan Cup 2016 .

At the Vuelta a España 2017 , he was part of a breakaway group on the third stage. Villella collected the most mountain points in this escape group and took over the mountain classification. During the tour he kept getting mountain points and kept the mountain classification until the end and won it. In 2018 Villella won the Tour of Almaty in Kazakhstan . At the Vuelta a España 2018 he was part of a breakaway group on stage five and out of this group he came fourth.
