Davor Solter (born March 22, 1941 in Zagreb , Kingdom of Yugoslavia ) is an American developmental biologist and former director of the Max Planck Institute for Immunobiology in Freiburg im Breisgau .

Life

Before that, Solter earned an MD in 1965 , a Masters in 1968 and a Ph.D. in 1971. in biology at the University of Zagreb , where he also had his first teaching duties. In 1973 he moved to the Wistar Institute , an independent biomedical research institute in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania . In 1981 he also received a professorship at the University of Pennsylvania . In 1991 he became a member of the Max Planck Society and director of the Max Planck Institute for Immunobiology in Freiburg im Breisgau , a position he held until 2006. From 2008 to 2013 he held a professorship at the National University of Singapore (NUS) in Singapore as part of a cooperation with Duke University (Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School Singapore) . Since 2014 he has been visiting professor at the Medical Faculty of Mahidol University near Bangkok , Thailand .

Act

Before that, Solter was able to make significant contributions to the developmental biology of mammals . These include the differentiation of the germ layers , the role of molecules on the cell surface in regulating early developmental steps , the biology and genetics of teratocarcinomas , the biology of embryonic stem cells , genetic imprinting and cloning . Recent work deals with genetic and epigenetic mechanisms that regulate the development of mouse embryos in the pre- implantation phase and with the reprogramming of human embryonic stem cells.
