DeForest Buckner (born March 17, 1994 in Waiʻanae , Hawaii , United States ) is an American football player for the Indianapolis Colts of the National Football League (NFL) and plays on the position of defensive end and defensive tackles . He played college football at the University of Oregon . From 2016 to 2019 he played for the San Francisco 49ers .

Early years

Buckner attended the Punahou School in Honolulu . He was a four-star recruit from Rivals.com. In January 2012, the University of Oregon signed him to play college football. Buckner also played basketball in high school.

college

Buckner played 13 games as a freshman in 2012 and started twice as a starter . He finished the year with 29 tackles and one sack . In his second year (2013), Buckner started eight of 13 games and was credited with 39 tackles and 2.5 sacks. In 2014 he finished the year as a junior with 81 tackles and 4.0 sacks. Buckner reached his career high of 83 tackles and 10.5 sacks last year (senior season). Buckner officially announced after his senior season that he would be participating in the 2016 NFL Draft. He was one of the most highly traded defensive ends in the 2016 NFL Draft.

NFL

Buckner was selected by the San Francisco 49ers in the first round as the seventh player in the 2016 NFL Draft. Buckner played fifteen games from the start in the 2016 season. He only missed one game (against the Arizona Cardinals ) due to a foot injury. At the end of the 2016 season, Buckner was elected to the 2016 PFWA All-Rookie Team.

On March 16, the 49ers agreed on a trade from Buckner to the Indianapolis Colts , who sent their first round pick to San Francisco for it.
