Dead Letter Circus is a five-piece alternative rock band from Brisbane ( Queensland ), Australia .

history

Dead Letter Circus was founded in 2005 by Kim Benzie vocals , Rob Maric electric guitar , Stewart Hill electric bass and Scott Davie drums . In 2005 they released their first single Disconnect and Apply , which was already played on Australian radio. In addition, the band made a good name for itself as a live act, which led to the fact that they could appear as the opening act for well-known bands such as Judas Priest , The Butterfly Effect , Chevelle , Karnivool or Helmet . But also an extensive tour through Australia as headliner was completed. In 2007 they released their first EP, Dead Letter Circus .

In 2008 drummer Scott Davie left the band and was replaced by Luke Williams. This was followed by an extensive tour of Australia and the release of the single Next in Line from the EP of the same name. The single reached number 63 in the Australian charts.

In 2010 the first album called This is the Warning was released. For release, the band played in almost every major Australian city. The album debuted at number 2 on the Australian charts. The band also played in the opening act for Linkin Park and Muse .

In August 2013 the second album, "The Catalyst Fire", was released, from which the songs "Lodestar" and "I Am" were released as singles. Two thematically building videos were produced for the singles, showing the logo of the album cover as a symbol of hope in a dystopian society . "The Catalyst Fire" received positive reviews from critics and occasionally even made it onto the list of the best albums of the year.

style

The band names Tool , Pearl Jam , Deftones , Radiohead and Soundgarden as the most influential bands on their own style, but they do not want to be understood as a copy of this, but try to find their own style. You say of yourself that the songs come about very quickly as a result of improvisations. They also often compare to Karnivool or The Mars Volta .
