Dejan Savićević (born September 15, 1966 in Titograd , SFR Yugoslavia ) is a former Yugoslav or Montenegrin football player and current coach and functionary.
Career
Savićević began his career in 1982 with Budućnost Titograd . In 1988 he joined Red Star Belgrade , where he was part of the team that won the 1991 European Cup and the World Cup until 1992 . In addition, he won the Yugoslav Championship three times between 1990 and 1992 at Roter Stern and the Yugoslav Cup in 1990. In 1992 he moved to AC Milan .
There, the midfielder earned the nickname Il Genio primarily through his performance in the 1994 Champions League final against FC Barcelona . He scored a goal in that game and initiated almost every attack. His club won 4-0. In addition to his success in the Champions League, he also won the Scudetto three times with AC Milan (1993, 1994, 1996) and the European Supercup once (1994). After returning to the Red Star in January 1999, he moved to SK Rapid Vienna for two years in the summer of 1999 .
For the Yugoslav national team , Savićević made a total of 56 appearances, five of them at the 1990 and 1998 World Cups . He scored a total of 19 goals.
From 2001 Dejan Savićević was Serbian-Montenegrin team coach, but had to resign after a 1: 2 defeat against Azerbaijan in June 2003.
Savićević now lives in Podgorica , Montenegro and is President of the Montenegrin Football Association ( Fudbalski Savez Crne Gore ).
