Descent, origin

It is a cross between the wild grapes Vitis labrusca , Vitis aestivalis and Vitis vinifera in 1849 by Abraham Thompson.

In the United States: In New York with the designations of origin Cayuga Lake AVA , Finger Lakes AVA and Seneca Lake AVA , Ohio with the growing area Lake Erie AVA , Pennsylvania , Minnesota , Missouri and Delaware .

In Austria , the Delaware variety is an approved part of Uhudler .

Ampelographic varietal characteristics

  • The shoot tip is open. It is woolly hairy, greenish with a slight carmine tinge. The yellow-green young leaves are only slightly hairy and greenish-red in color.
  • The large, dark green leaves are five-lobed and slightly indented. The stem bay is open in a U-shape. The leaf is serrated to a point and comparatively broadly set.
  • The cylindrical to conical grape is usually shouldered, medium-sized and quite dense. The round berries are medium-sized and bright red in color.

Maturity: The grape variety ripens almost at the same time as the Gutedel and is therefore considered to ripen very early. It is suitable for a cool wine-growing climate.
