Seneca Lake AVA (recognized since 1988, revised July 3, 2003) is a wine-growing region in the US state of New York . The area is located within Upstate New York in the administrative areas of Ontario County , Schuyler County , Seneca County and Yates County in the immediate vicinity of Seneca Lake .

Seneca Lake is located in a tongue basin of a former glacier , is 61 km long and a maximum of 180 m deep. The second largest lake of the Finger Lakes has the largest stored water volume of these lakes due to its depth. The water masses have a beneficial effect on the microclimate, especially in autumn, and ensure that the vines grow longer.

Riesling is the region's most successful grape variety in terms of marketing.
