Güzlav von Rotermund

Güzlav von Rotermund (* 1535 ; † April 28, 1603 in Franzburg ; also Gutslaf von Rotermund ) was a German governor and Princely Councilor in the Duchy of Pomerania .

Life

Güzlav von Rotermund came from the noble family von Rotermund residing on Rügen and was the son of Balzer von Rotermund auf Boldevitz and Margarete von Barnekow . He studied at various German and Italian universities. He then entered the service of Duke Johann Albrecht I of Mecklenburg , later in the service of King Friedrich II of Denmark .

In 1569 he went back to Pomerania and was governor of Neuenkamp , which together with Barth the Duke Bogislaw XIII. when apanage was assigned. In 1570 he acquired the village of Teschenhagen on Rügen and the village of Cordshagen near Miltzow , where he had a castle with a watchtower built, which he called Engelswacht .

During his tenure, a ducal palace was built in Neuenkamp on the remains of the monastery complex from 1578, the construction of which he supervised. The Bogislaw XIII. The establishment of a manufacturing settlement, which was named Franzburg, should be based on his advice . The project, which was designed to compete with Stralsund and soon failed, led to disputes with the Hanseatic city .

In the years 1584–1595 Rotermund was governor of Rügen .

Güzlav von Rotermund had been married to Eva von Krakewitz from the Divitz family since 1575 and had seven daughters and a son, Kasper. On June 7, 1603 Rotermund was buried in the church in Reinkenhagen .
