Delft Treaty of Reconciliation

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Delft Treaty of Reconciliation ( Dutch : Zoen van Delft ) refers to a treaty concluded on July 3, 1428 between Duke Philip the Good of Burgundy and Jakobäa , the Wittelsbach heiress of Straubing-Holland . In this Jakobäa recognized the Duke of Burgundy as co-regent in the counties of Holland , Zeeland , Friesland and Hainaut . In the event of her childless death, which actually occurred in 1436, she appointed Philip as her successor. However, he was not prepared to wait that long. In 1433 he kidnapped Jacobea's husband Frank van Borselen and demanded that Jacobea completely renounce the counties in return for his release. The Wittelsbacherin therefore transferred to him on April 12, 1433 in the Hague Treaty all rights to the territories she ruled.
