Demetri Martin (born May 25, 1973 in New York City , New York ) is an American comedian , actor and screenwriter .

Life

Childhood and youth

Demetri Martin, son of Dean H. Martin, a Greek Orthodox priest, and his wife Lillian Martin, a nutritionist , grew up in Toms River , New Jersey . His family also created a second financial foothold by opening a restaurant in Beachwood, New Jersey.

After graduating from Yale University in 1995, Martin wrote to the New York University School of Law in order jurisprudence to study. A year before the regular end, he broke off his studies, despite objections from his parents, to try it as a stand-up comedian .

Career

Martin's breakthrough came in 2001 when he was seen in Premium Blend , a show for young comedians on the specialty channel Comedy Central . With his own show If I… he won the Edinburgh Comedy Award in 2003 in Edinburgh, Scotland. In the same year, the well-known talk show host Conan O'Brien signed him, for whom Martin was active as a point writer in over 130 editions of the Late Night Show with Conan O'Brien until 2004 . In 2008 he also got his own show on Comedy Central with Important Things with Demetri Martin .

Martins career as an actor began in 2002 in a small supporting role in the film comedy Analyze This 2 alongside Billy Crystal and Robert De Niro . Martin also made a brief appearance in 2008 in the comedy Paper Heart . However, his international breakthrough came only in 2009, when he was in Taking Woodstock , directed by Ang Lee the LGBT activists Elliot Tiber personified.
