Denis Nikolajewitsch Schemelin ( Russian Денис Николаевич Шемелин ; born July 24, 1978 in the Kazakh SSR ) is a Kazakh ice hockey player who has been under contract with Molot-Prikamje Perm in the Vysschaya Hockey League since 2011 .

Career

Denis Schemelin began his career as a hockey player in the junior division of Kaszink-Torpedo Ust-Kamenogorsk , for whose professional team he made his debut in the Vysschaja Liga , the second Russian division, in the 1998/99 season . He scored four goals in a total of 42 games and provided six templates. With Torpedo, the defender became Kazakh champion in the 2003/04 season . After the success, however, he left the club and joined Neftechimik Nizhnekamsk from the Russian Super League .

After three years with the Russians, he started the 2007/08 season at his ex-club Torpedo in Kazakhstan, but left after only 14 games to defend for league rivals Barys Astana . After Astana was accepted into the newly founded Continental Hockey League for the 2008/09 season , the former national player played his first eleven games in the KHL. A year and a half followed with league rival HK Lada Tolyatti before the 2006 Olympian signed with Amur Khabarovsk during the 2009/10 season . For the 2011/12 season he moved to Molot-Prikamje Perm from the Wysschaja Hockey League .

International

For Kazakhstan , Schemelin took part in the Junior B World Championships in 1997 , and in the senior division in the B World Championships in 1999 , 2000 , 2001 and 2002 . He also competed for his country at the A World Cup in 2004 and the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin .
