As a columnist , Başpınar has an opinion piece under the title Kölümne for Zeit Online , in which she writes about “Germany and Germans with and without a background ”. She herself is of Turkish origin .

Positions

Deniz Başpınar emphasizes the distinction between arranged marriage and forced marriage . Equating both forms of marriage initiation, as Necla Kelek suggests, testifies to a “Eurocentric view” which “declares the oriental woman to be a victim”. To designate an arranged marriage as a forced marriage is not only objectively wrong, it incapacitates the women involved "according to the motto: You have been forcibly married, you just don't know".
