Dennis Șerban (born January 5, 1976 in Bucharest ) is a former Romanian football player . He played a total of 177 games in the Romanian League 1 , the Spanish Primera División and the Greek Super League . The midfielder won the Romanian championship with Steaua Bucharest in 1997 and 1998 and with Dinamo Bucharest in 2007 .

Career

Șerban came in 1993 from the youth of his home club Farul Constanța in the squad of the first team that played in the Divizia Națională at the time . In order to collect match practice, he was first loaned to local rivals Portul Constanța . After his return he became a regular in Farul's midfield. In 1996 he signed record champions Steaua Bucharest . With his new team he was able to win the championships in 1996/97 and 1997/98 .

During the 1998/99 season, the Spanish top club Valencia CF signed Șerban. There he did not get beyond the role of supplementary player and was loaned to Villarreal CF in the Segunda División . After the rise in 2000 , a new loan deal was agreed. With FC Elche , where he was only just able to avoid relegation from the Segunda División at the end of the 2000/01 season . Here he achieved the best goal yield of his career with eleven goals. After returning to Valencia, he was only used three times in the first half of 2001/02 and was loaned to Rapid Bucharest in early 2002 .

In the summer of 2002, FC Córdoba brought Șerban back to the Segunda División. A year later he joined league rival Polideportivo Ejido . In early 2004 he returned to Romania, where Petrolul Ploieşti signed him. With Petrolul he had to relegate at the end of the 2003/04 season . He then moved to Dinamo Bucharest , but came there only on three missions. At the beginning of 2005 he hired AE Larisa in the Greek Beta Ethniki . After promotion in 2005 , he secured himself with his team in the 2005/06 season to stay in class. Then he returned to Dinamo. There he won his third championship at the end of his career .

National team

Șerban played 13 games for the Romanian national team . He made his debut in the friendly against Israel on August 14, 1996 , when he came on for Dorinel Munteanu with three minutes remaining . It was then a year before he was on the starting line-up for his second international match against Macedonia on August 20, 1997 . After another qualifying game for the 1998 World Cup against Liechtenstein , he played brief appearances in three friendly matches in early 1998. After he was not nominated by national coach Anghel Iordănescu for the Romanian World Cup squad , he returned to the national team in August. As a result, he mostly came on as a substitute and played his last international match against Estonia on March 3, 1999 .

On November 15, 2000 he was called up by László Bölöni for a friendly against Yugoslavia and was able to achieve his only international goal to lead 1-0 in the third minute. On April 25, 2001 he came against Slovakia for the last time.
