The Chimbas department is located in the center of the San Juan Province in western Argentina and is one of 19 administrative units in the province.

It is bordered by the Albardón Department to the north, the San Martín Department to the east, the Capital and Santa Lucía Department to the south, and the Rivadavia Department to the west .

The capital of the Chimbas department is the Chimbas of the same name .
