The Jáchal department is located in the north of the province of San Juan in western Argentina and is one of 19 administrative units in the province.

It borders the province of La Rioja to the north, the Valle Fértil department to the east, the Caucete , Angaco , Albardón and Ullum departments to the south , and the Iglesia department to the west .

The capital of the Jáchal department is San José de Jáchal .
