The department of Sarmiento is located in the south of the province of San Juan in western Argentina and is one of 19 administrative units in the province.

It borders in the north on the departments of Zonda , Pocito and Rawson , in the east on the Veinticinco de Mayo , in the south on the province of Mendoza and in the west on the department Calingasta .

The capital of the Sarmiento department is Villa Media Agua .
