The Rawson Department is located in the southern center of the San Juan Province in western Argentina and is one of 19 administrative units in the province. The north belongs to the metropolitan area of the city of San Juan .
It borders the departments Rivadavia , Capital and Santa Lucía to the north, the Nueve de Julio department to the east, the Sarmiento and Veinticinco de Mayo departments to the south and the Pocito department to the west .
