The Departamento Capital is located in the center of the province of San Juan in western Argentina and is one of 19 administrative units in the province.

It is bordered by the Chimbas department to the north, the Santa Lucía department to the east, the Rawson department to the south and the Rivadavia department to the west .

The capital of the Departamento Capital is San Juan of the same name .
