The Nueve de Julio department is located in the south of the Río Negro province in southern Argentina and is one of the province's 13 administrative units .
It is bordered by the departments of El Cuy and Avellaneda to the north, the department of Valcheta to the east, the province of Chubut to the south and the department of Veinticinco de Mayo to the west .
The capital of the Nueve de Julio department is Sierra Colorada .
