The GMWE No. 7-8 were two quadruple coupled tank locomotives of the Gera-Meuselwitz-Wuitzer Railway (GMWE).
history
In 1922, GMWE acquired two superheated steam locomotives from Borsig to strengthen their locomotive fleet . These locomotives were also taken over by the Deutsche Reichsbahn on April 1, 1949 and assigned the numbers 99 5911 and 5912.
Both locomotives were in service until 1969. The first was sold to VEB Meliorationsbau Karl-Marx-Stadt and scrapped in 1973. The second was z-provided in 1970 and scrapped in 1975.
technical features
The locomotives were the first superheated steam locomotives on the railway. For narrow-gauge locomotives, they had a rather voluminous boiler. They had a Heusinger control , which was converted to a Trofimoff valve in 1960 and 1961 . The drive rod acted on the third axis. When they were purchased, the locomotives were equipped with a Görlitz weight brake, which was converted to a Knorr compressed air brake in 1929 . The water supply was housed on both sides of the boiler, the coals on the back of the cab. In addition to the balancing lever coupling, the locomotives also had a push bar in order to be able to move standard-gauge cars.
