The dolphin - the story of a dreamer (original title: El delfín: La historia de un soñador ) is a computer-animated children's film from 2009 by director Eduardo Schuldt and is based on the novel The dreaming dolphin by Sergio Bambaren .

Some time ago all the animals of the ocean lived happily ever after and only followed the voice of their heart. In the meantime they no longer listen to their inner voice and have forgotten how to dream. Instead of fishing to live, they only live to fish and amassing material possessions. Only one is different: Daniel Alexander Delfin.
Daniel lives with a school of dolphins in a lagoon that is separated from the ocean by a reef . Believing that there is more to life than fishing and staying in the lagoon, he dreams of one day riding a big "perfect wave", but he is not allowed to leave the safe lagoon. The other dolphins cannot understand him and see the dreamer as an outsider who does not want to fit into the group and conform to the rules.
One day the voice of the ocean speaks to Daniel and shortly afterwards a manta ray visits the lagoon, which the voice of the ocean has sent as an ambassador. Daniel is told that the sun will soon have reached the right place and that he should be on his way. Daniel does not understand the meaning, but is determined to leave the lagoon and bravely jumps over the reef. In the vast ocean, Daniel meets the squid Carl. The two become friends and travel on together. They meet a flock of barracudas , who listen to the orders of Lucius, an oversized barracuda. Daniel and Carl are chased by Lucius, but they manage to escape.
The voice of the sea tells Daniel to follow the sun and heed the signs on his way. Only in this way can he finally ride the crest of the perfect wave and thus bring the world of dreams back to all creatures of the ocean. You come across a large purple clam that Carl has heard that all wishes should come true in it. When they enter, however, they meet an octopus , which is only called master by the jellyfish present . The octopus tells Daniel about a solar eclipse . When the octopus tries to force them to stay, the two flee. Daniel returns one more time to the purple clam and frees the sea creatures that were kept there as slaves by the octopus.
You meet the shark, Mr. Bite, who complains that he can never have a long conversation with fish. Daniel advises him that he should try not to eat his interlocutors right away, and Mr. Bite vows to get better. A sunfish now explains to them that Lucius is a dream eater who swallows all the dreams of the sea creatures. The sunfish dreams of touching the sun once in a lifetime and tries to swim towards the sun every day at sunset to touch it.
Lucius tries to steal his dreams from Daniel, but he doesn't succeed. When he tries to kill Daniel, all the sea creatures he has met on his journey come to his aid. After the voice of the sea spoke to Lucius, the giant barracuda shrinks to normal size and now turns out to be a dolphin. Next to sunken ships they come across gold coins and a whale explains to them that this is the reason why people have long forgotten how to dream.
As the solar eclipse sets in, a huge wave comes towards Daniel. After riding his perfect wave, the voice of the sea tells him that despite all the difficulties, he believed in himself, followed his dream and found his meaning in life. Daniel returns to his crush, where they are so enthusiastic about his stories that they all leave their lagoon, explore the oceans and dream again.
