action

The action is set in the London borough of Soho , the infamous entertainment district of the British capital. Here is "the small world of Sammy Lee" - the German translation of the English original song - a moderately paid emcees in one of the many striptease -Local. There is no escape from this narrowness, especially not from the razors with which the "organizations" are accustomed to draw defaulting debtors. And with Sammy Lee it is now so far that he has only five hours to settle 300 pounds of betting and gaming losses. With almost dogged heroism, he embarks on the seemingly hopeless task of spending an afternoon raising the sum through pumps and through partly honest, partly dishonest deals between his performances. But in the evening, when, contrary to expectations, it seems to have succeeded, there is a check under the expressly stipulated cash. That means the end. With black gallows humor, Jonny Lee first ridicules the club and then the guests from the stage. He then tries to escape, but soon gives up in resignation. The thugs do him terribly, but spare him from the worst and in the end even slip the check back to him.

Reviews

The Evangelische Film-Beobachter sums up his criticism as follows: “A superbly designed study, whose oppressively affected milieu leaves a shocking impression.” The lexicon of international film also has a good opinion of the film: “A convincing study of the milieu that focuses entirely on Fate of the Little Man Concentrated ”. Zeit Online judges: “Without any melodramatic accessories, Hughes portrays a lousy milieu with realistic accuracy. Glamor is only for tourists in the joyless streets of Soho. "
