The sky calls (OT: Russian Небо Зовёт , transcribed Nebo zovyot ) is a Soviet science fiction - feature film of 1959. The film opened on August 5, 1960 in the eastern German cinemas.
Due to the excellent trick shots , Roger Corman used materials from the film for his 1962 production Battle beyond the Sun and 1965 for the film Voyage to the Prehistoric Planet , for which he mainly used the material from Planeta Bur ( Planet of the Storms ) . Peter Bogdanovich used the material from Voyage to the Prehistoric Planet in 1968 for his feature film Voyage to the Planet of Prehistoric Women , in which he inserted further scenes from Heaven calls .
action
The Soviet spaceship Rodina ( Родина , Russian for home ) and the American spaceship Typhoon land on a space station orbiting the earth . Both ships are scheduled for a trip to Mars . The American astronauts Clark and Werst reject the proposal of the Soviet cosmonauts to undertake the Mars expedition together for reasons of prestige. In addition, the Americans disregard a meteorite warning from the Soviets.
The Typhoon takes off and is soon out of sight of the space station. When the Rodina finally takes off towards Mars, there is no longer any contact with the Typhoon . The space flight is routine. Suddenly the Rodina receives weak distress signals from the Typhoon . She got caught in the meteor storm and threatens to plunge into the sun .
The crew of the Rodina succeeds in rescuing the Americans, but the fuel is no longer sufficient to reach Mars, so that the spaceship has to make an emergency landing on the asteroid Icarus . A propellant rocket will be deployed from Earth so that space travelers can return to Earth.
